Chandler man critically injured in wreck on Toll 49

SMITH COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH)-- A Chandler man is in critical condition following a one-vehicle wreck on Toll 49.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Ryan Thompson said the crash occurred at 8:22 p.m. just north of County Road 4218. The man was headed south on the toll road when he lost control of his Nissan sports car.

Thompson said the car went to the right off the roadway, where it hit a covert and flipped multiple times -- landing roughly 150 feet past the covert. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials believe he took a curve in the roadway too fast.

Thompson said the jaws of life were used to extract the man from the car and he was air-lifted from the scene to a Tyler hospital. His name was not released pending notification of his family.

Thompson said the man was conscious but did not remember the crash. No other injuries were reported. Dixie Volunteer Fire Department, EMS and DPS responded to the scene.
