Chapel Hill fire

CHAPEL HILL (KYTX) - The Smith County Fire Marshal's office is investigating a fire that destroyed an abandoned home in the 10,000 block of Highway 64 East Monday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. and generated a huge amount of smoke after spreading to pine trees and brush. Fire crews from Jackson Heights, Chapel Hill and Whitehouse all worked together to get the fire under control.

Richmond Crumpton, a firefighter with Jackson Heights Fire Department, said the single-story brick structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived and was considered to be a total loss.

No one was injured.
