(KVUE)- Charlie Strong's off-season motto for the Longhorns has been "Put the 'T' back in Texas." And he's meant it. He prohibited players from throwing up the "Hook 'Em Horns" sign with their hands, saying they had to earn it. He's made them walk the half-mile to practice instead of taking a bus like they used to under Mack Brown. And he's even stripped the longhorns off their helmets.
When players arrived for the first day of practice on Monday, their helmets were solid white. The orange longhorns were gone.
The Texas culture is changing under Strong, and this is just another example. In his first preseason news conference on Sunday, he announced three potential starters will miss at least one game for violating team rules and confirmed seven other players had been dismissed.
The all-white helmets might be a small thing, but it'll go a long way once the players earn their horns back.
