EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- Asia likes arts and crafts as she spends the afternoon at the Pottery Cafe in Tyler.
"I'm painting a cupcake. It's more than just a cupcake. It's a piggy bank."
This 12 year old also likes dancing, playing the clarinet, taking part in church activities and playing sports.
"She's a sweet child," Child Protective Services Ashley Gipson said. "Real quiet. Once she does meet you she will open up but it's going to take her some time to get to know you."
Asia is very mature and intelligent and takes great pride in her appearance.
"I have a lot of friends."
She does well in school and is about to enter the 7th grade and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
But the long wait for a forever family is hard on Asia who has been in foster care since she was 9.
"She wants to be adopted," Gipson said. "She wants a mom and a dad and wants someone who will allow her to participate in extra curricular activities and support her in any activity she's in."
Because of disappointments in her life, Asia is cautious about adoption but knows the stability and structure is exactly what she needs.
"They need to accept her for who she is. They need to understand that for her going into their home they'll need to allow her time to adjust to the home and they are going to have to adjust to her and it may take her a while to adjust and come around but it will happen."
