Children Are A Gift: Zack

TYLER (KYTX) – Zack is a reserved 15 -year-old.

"He is pretty quiet and laid back. He kind of keeps to himself. He likes to play video games," said Casey Abernathy with Child Protective Services.

Zack is in the 9th-grade and enjoys school. He hopes to one day go to college and wants to be a teacher. "Get a degree in math hopefully," he said.

Abernathy said, "He's a pretty typical 15-year-old. His favorite subject in school is math. He's pretty good at it. I told him I could use him for some algebra help."

Although he doesn't play sports, he still likes to be involved. "I usually just help out at the concession stand and stuff like that."

Zack has spent several years in foster care. "It's a rocky road," he said sadly. He's working on overcoming past trauma and will need a family willing to give him guidance and support.

"He's been in the same foster home the last year and they've been able to work with Zack and he's made progress in a lot of areas," explained Abernathy.

He's still dealing with rejection and wants a family of his own."Mom's side doesn't want me because of mom. They just didn't get along with her. Dad's side doesn't want me because of dad."

Abernathy added, "He just wants someone who wants him. That's his biggest thing. He doesn't care anything else about them. As long as they accept him, he's fine with that."

A forever family to give him a sense of belonging and the love he desperately needs. I asked him, "Do you want to be adopted?" Without hesitation he responded, "Yes ma'am!"
