LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Before Friday, lack of money kept the Crisman School in Longview from affording new musical instruments for its students.
"There's so much scientific evidence involved about learning to play a musical instrument., said Longview financial advisor Kenneth Chinn, who along with his daughter Tara, donated eleven new guitars and lesson books to start a guitar lab at the school.
Since September, the Chinn Guitar Project has given away about 200 guitars in schools and children's hospitals around the country. Students say they guitar lab is already their favorite class of the school day.
"It's awesome," student Dakota Hackney said. "I am excited, you know, so I can get to know how to play the chords like the g and d and c."
Chinn says he's working with several other schools in east Texas to donate more guitars.
The project also donates guitars to Ryan Seacrest's studios in six Children's Medical Hospitals around the country, used exclusively by hospital patients.
