(CBS/CNN) -FedEx and UPS are playing "Catch-up Christmas" today.
Both express shipping companies failed to deliver some packages by Christmas Day, citing bad weather and overwhelming demand from last-minute shoppers. Neither company is saying just how many boxes never made it under the tree, but both called in extra workers overnight to deliver them 364 days early for next Christmas.
Some customers received messages from Amazon.com alerting them of the "failure in the UPS transportation network." In the message, the company offered to refund shipping charges and provide gift cards.
