City of Longview encourage neighborhoods to host Texans Against Crime block parties

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - On Tuesday, October 9, neighborhoods throughout Longview are invited to join forces with other communities statewide for the Texans Against Crime event.  Texans Against Crime is sponsored by the City of Longview – Partners in Prevention and the Longview Police Department.

The 2012 year marks the 22nd year the City of Longview will participate in an awareness campaign against crime.  In the past years, Longview has seen much success with community block parties held.

An award will be given for the BEST Neighborhood Crime Watch group in Longview.  An essay of 200 words or less is required with the application, explaining why your block deserves to be featured this year as the "BEST Neighborhood Crime Watch".  If you would like to submit an application and essay for this award, you can find the rules and entry form at under "Quick Links", or contact Partners in Prevention at 903.237.1019.  Deadline for application submission is Monday, October 1, at 5:00 pm in the Partners in Prevention office located at 140 E. Tyler St., Suite 400, Longview, Texas.

All citizens are encouraged to participate by hosting or attending one of the many Texans Against Crime parties on October 9th.  The parties are designed to promote neighborhood alliances that strengthen our communities and preserve the quality of life in East Texas.  Terry Barrett of Partners in Prevention stated, "Through Texans Against Crime, we can strengthen our communities by helping educate our families, friends, and neighbors on crime prevention.  This is a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to get together to meet each other and enjoy an evening of fellowship."
