City of Nacogdoches discusses possible ban on "e-cigs"

(KYTX) - City of Nacogdoches leaders are discussing  the possible regulation of electronic cigarettes at tonight's council meeting.

Over the last few years, "e-cigarettes" have become increasingly popular. The device is a battery powered electronic cigarette that mimics the sensation of smoking an actual cigarette, without tobacco.

The claim for e-cigarettes is that they are a safe alternative to smoking. There is no definitive evidence of that, proponents point to several issues.

Unlike traditional tobacco products, there are no federal age restrictions preventing minors from buying e-cigs.

However, less than a dozen Texas cities regulate them like any other tobacco product.
