TYLER (KYTX)- In honor of National Garbage Man Day, the City of Tyler will recognize its 60 residential and commercial solid waste collectors on Wednesday, June 18 at a special luncheon to show appreciation for all of their service.
Residents can leave notes on garbage cans and also call or e-mail the local office to show their appreciation.
An estimated 2,000 tons of solid waste is collected each week in Tyler along with 30 tons of recycling.
"We're just here to serve our customers in the most economically and environmentally responsible way," said Residential Superintendent Galen Billington. "To receive the City's gratitude makes us thankful to work in such a wonderful community."
Tyler Solid Waste takes pride in using a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas trucks, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 500 pounds per year.
Tyler Solid Waste collects trash twice a week, with some of the lowest rates in Texas. Residents have continually voted Tyler Solid Waste as a top City service.
