PALESTINE (KYTX) - If you find yourself driving about fifeteen minutes outside of Palestine, you may see a new tall wooden fence. That wooden fence, says owner Butch Manuel, is intended to shield those who prefer to go clothing-free. But he says, it’s not a nudist place.
"We’re just offering an Adult RV destination park, where people can come here on their free will," says Manuel. "This place is a safe place for adults to come and gather and meet friends, socialize, lay out, in a safe environment."
And Manuel is not violating any county laws either. Anderson County Judge Robert Johnston says it’s private property.
"As long as its not a sexually oriented business then there’s nothing the county has control over," he said.
Butch says the resort is membership only.
"'If people want to sun tan and not worry about tan lines, it’s their option. There’s no judgment," he said. "We accept everyone who wants to be out here and enjoy this natural setting."
But, not everyone does.
Pamela Muniz lives in Palestine and doesn't agree with the new resort.
"I believe the body is God’s temple, and so whether it’s fifteen miles or five miles outside of town, I don’t agree with that at all.
For Joel Torma, also a Palestine resident, it’s more of a personal choice.
"At first I thought it was weird for this small town to be having a clothes optional place, but to each is own, whatever they want to do," he said.
