TYLER (KYTX)- The Tyler Police Department was honored with the Community Champion Award during the annual United Way of Tyler Smith County awards luncheon on April 30.
This is their sixth year in a row to receive this award.
In 2013-2014 the Tyler Police Department raised $23,000 for United Way that will be used locally to benefit the citizens of Smith County.
"When you're around town as often as we are, you see people in need, and it's just natural to want to help," said Police Chief Gary Swindle. "I think that's why our officers have such a longstanding commitment to helping the community through both their service and in giving to United Way."
