Copper thieves jailed in Gregg County

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Two men are in the Gregg County Jail on $21,000 bond, charged with criminal trespass and copper theft.

Longview police arrested 44-year-old Steven Glenn Carter, of Longview, and 44-year-old Emett K. Monroe, of Diana, after finding the pair breaking into a vacant commercial structure Wednesday morning in the 1500 block of E. Marshall Avenue.

According to court documents, an officer was doing a security check when he heard voices from inside the structure and wires being pulled through metal conduit but no vehicles parked outside.
After apprehending the two men, the officer found bundles of copper wire that had been stripped out from all over the shop, according to court documents. The property owner was later contacted and advised that neither Monroe or Carter had permission to be at the location.
