At about 1:30 AM on Saturday, June 1, 2013, officers responded to the 900 block of Cottonwood Circle, which is the location of the Cottonwood Trailer Park, in reference to a male suspect at that location that had discharged a firearm into the air and was reportedly thinking of killing himself. Upon the officers arrival they encountered the suspect with a handgun in front of a mobile home in the 900 block of Cottonwood Circle. Officers instructed him to drop the handgun but he refused and then first pointed the handgun at his own head before turning and pointing the handgun at one of the officers, immediately firing more than one shot at one of officers. Two officers then shot the suspect, a 21 year old Hispanic male of Corsicana. Corsicana EMS was immediately dispatched and responded to the scene, but the suspect was deceased upon their arrival. The officers were not injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers were notified of the shooting and responded to conduct the criminal investigation. District Attorney Lowell Thompson was also notified.

Corsicana Police Department detectives responded to conduct an internal administrative investigation to insure departmental policies and procedures were followed. In accordance with departmental policy, all the officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave with pay.

Justice of the Peace Connie Hickman responded to the scene as part of the investigation.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting and the suspect's name are not being released due to the investigation still being conducted.
