County Commissioner Precinct 4 candidates vie for office

TYLER (KYTX) - The precinct four county commissioner seat is up for grabs. Incumbent JoAnn Hampton is facing off against former City Councilman Donald Sanders.

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey breaks down this race.

The two candidates have both served for years in Smith County Government. One is looking to get back into it, while the other looks to continue their reign.

Current Precinct 4 county commissioner Hampton has held office since January of 2003. Donald sanders on the other hand finished his time as city councilman in 2012. Both candidates say their strong connection to the community makes them the best person for the job.

"I know what the strengths an the weakness are as far as this community is concerned, and I know the things that we need to build on in order to make Tyler a better place," said Hampton.

"I know the precinct I know most of the county roads and the citizens that live in these communities, and I realize some of the needs," said Sanders.

If elected this will be Hampton fourth term in office. Sanders he realizes she has quite a bit of following on the other hand says it time to see a new face in office.
