Crimea to invite international observers to referendum

(CNN) - As world leaders try to find a way to ease the tension in Ukraine, Russian lawmakers are reinforcing their support for a controversial referendum in Crimea.

A delegation from the autonomous region is in Moscow, a day after they voted to join Russia. The head of the Crimean Supreme Council said Russian and others could attend the vote. Ukraine's interim Prime Minister insists the referendum, planned for March 16, is illegal.
