Customer severely injured in Lufkin convenience store robbery

LUFKIN - A victim is expected to recover from a severe beating during a robbery inside a convenience store in Lufkin on Sunday.

Richard Lee Archer, 39, was in line behind 21-year-old Andrea Franks-Vanzandt at Lucky's Convenience Store around 12:30 p.m. when Franks-Vanzandt allegedly turned, punched, kicked and stomped Archer repeatedly until Archer passed out.

Franks-Vanzandt then took $35 from Archer's wallet before fleeing on foot.

A Lufkin officer arrested Franks-Vanzandt about 10 minutes later outside Pioneer Crossing Apartments and was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Archer was air-lifted to a hospital for treatment of head and facial injuries, but is expected to recover.

No words were exchanged between the men prior to the attack and they did not know each other.
