DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police are warning residents about an armed serial rapist and robber, who they say has attacked at least seven women since late June. The sexual assaults took place on six different dates from June 22 through September 1, all on the city's southeast side, near Fair Park.
Police say the suspect has approached women who were walking and held them up at gunpoint. He then forced them to nearby secluded areas where he sexually assaulted and robbed them. The attacks all took place between midnight and 6 a.m. and have targeted women of different ages. "Our victims all range from late teens all the way into their 40s," said Maj. Jeff Cotner with the Dallas Police Department. "The commonality is the time of day, the geographic area of our city and that they're walking."
The suspect wears a mask or a bandana, according to victims, who have described him as a black man in mid-20s to 30 years old, weighing about 200 lbs. He is estimated to be 5'6" to 5'11" tall. The suspect also wears gold-rimmed prescription glasses, and has worn a t-shirt and basketball shorts during some of the attacks. In each of the attacks, the suspect has put some sort of cloth over his face. Police have not released a composite sketch of the suspect.
Police say the rapist has walked up to all of his victims, but may have driven away from some of the locations in a gray Honda Civic four-door or an older model gray Volvo four-door.
Police say they have stepped up patrols in the areas where the sexual assaults have occurred — and say they waited until now to issue an alert because of he length of time between the first and second attack.
"We had this gap and we don't know. That's part of our investigation is why we had this large gap of six weeks all the way from… June all the way into August," said Cotner.
