(CBS) - Monday is the deadline to buy health insurance to get coverage by January 1.
There's been a last minute change that may help some of you who are losing your current coverage because of the Affordable Care Act.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced people will now be able to buy bare-bones policies called catastrophic coverage. Those plans were originally intended for people under 30, but the cap on age has now been removed. Insurance companies objected to the change saying it creates market instability and confuses consumers.
The Department of Health and Human Services has also set up a hotline dedicated for people who received cancellation notices. You can now call 1-866-837-0677 to get help finding a new plan or help applying for the exemption.
