Just a few weeks ago, former Henderson football head coach Dickey Meeks broke our hearts when he accepting the same job at Pittsburg. The heartbreaker becomes a pirate after seven memorable years at the helm of the Henderson lions.
He led Henderson to the 2010 Class 3A division one state championship, the second state title of his career. Over the last three seasons, the lions have lost only 10 games while they've won 33.
The team went 11-3 in 2011, finishing its season one game short of the state championship. This past season, the lions went 9-5. The lions lost in the 4th round of the playoffs.
Longtime Frankston basketball head coach Robert Loper got his 800th win Friday night. Loper and his Indians beat Sabine 71-41 in Liberty City.
Frankston is currently on the hunt to win yet another district title. The Indians and Troup are tied for first place in district play. Loper has 38 years of head coaching experience under his belt.

In District 16-4a, 10th-ranked and undefeated Jacksonville (32-0) beat Whitehouse, winning the district and John Tyler defeated Lindale, 61-38.
National Signing Day may be over but the signings don't stop. Three Bishop Gorman crusaders put pen to paper on Friday afternoon. The trio was nothing but smiles as they signed their autographs to play at the next level.
Madeline Raney is off to Lubbock. She's the 25th, Division I, track & field female Bishop Gorman has signed... Huge milestone for the program.
Jerome Anthony Milton is staying close to home. He'll be at UT Tyler in the Fall where he'll participate in track and be an athletic manager.
Matthew Roe will attend Southwestern University where he'll play football and track & field. This, just over a year after tearing his ACL. Football hasn't been at Southwestern since 1951 so Roe will be on the program's first team in over 60 years.
