Dozens hurt after deck collapses in Florida

NORTH BAY VILLAGE, FL (CNN) - A night out to watch the San Antonio Spurs-Miami Heat game ended with a search and rescue effort in Florida. That's after the deck of a popular sports bar collapsed Thursday night.

It happened at Shucker's Bar and Grill. The deck is unrecognizable, compared to the usual scene. Authorities believe about 100 people were on it when it gave way -- dumping them into Biscayne Bay. 24 people were hurt, three are in critical condition. A waitress at the restaurant says the deck folded just as people stood to cheer after a heat basket.

A witness describes what he saw.

"It was this peculiar roar of noise and by the time I turned around-in a split second-where there was once people -I mean 50, a hundred people maybe, at least there was nothing, and darkness, and screaming," says Tom Tuckwell.

Helicopters were on the scene to illuminate the water as rescue divers searched for the injured. Ambulances were waiting to take them to nearby hospitals. Authorities say they've accounted for everyone who went into the water when the deck crumbled. An investigation is now underway to determine why it happened.
