DPS: All lanes back open after 18-wheeler crash on I-20

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - The Texas Department of Public Safety says all lanes of Interstate 20 are back open after the 18-wheeler crash that blocked traffic for hours.
The crash happened Friday afternoon near Barber Rd. in Smith County.

East bound lanes were completely shut down as emergency crews worked to clear an 18-wheeler wreck.

Troopers say for an unknown reason the driver of an 18-wheeler traveling west bound drove off the roadway. That 18-wheeler cleared the concrete median and landed in the east bound lanes, hitting another 18-wheeler and two other cars.
No one was seriously hurt, but a big mess was left behind. Hazmat crews are tasked with cleaning up the oil and diesel left in the road.
DPS has been diverting traffic away from I-20 since it happened around 1 p.m.

Troopers say the 18-wheeler was transporting pillows.
The driver and two other people were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center as a precaution.

UPDATE: EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Multiple injuries are being reported at Mile Marker 574 and Barber Road. Two 18-wheelers and several vehicles are involved in accident.

The accident happen around 1:15 p.m.

Winona Fire department and Tyler DPS have responded to the scene. Scanner traffic reports say a SUV with people trapped are being pulled by other drivers at the scene.

The west and east bound lanes are shut down. Traffic is backed up for several miles on I20 and the ramps on Highway 271 to get on to the interstate.

EAST TEXAS (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The Department of Public Safety and fire crews are currently working a accident involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20.

DPS officials say that the eastbound lanes near Barber Road are shut down and one westbound lane is shut down.

Hazmat crew is en route to clean up gas and oil from accident.

It is unclear at this time if there are any injuries.
