Driver, passenger injured in fiery wreck after fleeing DPS Trooper

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY (KYTX) -- Two people were hospitalized Wednesday after trying to escape a DPS trooper following a traffic stop.

It happened just before 2 p.m. when the trooper stopped a 2004 Nissan truck on FM 225 for a traffic violation. The trooper tried giving the driver a field sobriety test, but the driver did not cooperate. When the trooper tried to detain him, the driver got in the truck and took off.

The trooper fired several shots at the truck as it sped away to try and disable it before going after the pick-up. A Nacogdoches County Deputy Constable later found the suspect's truck in flames after it crashed into a tree on County Road 874. The driver and the passenger were pulled from the truck and taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
