Updated (KYTX)-- Smith County is making it easier for you to get access to the polls.
"I was in and out in under 60 seconds," Elicia Eckert, a Smith County voter, said.
She says it's a different story than her last experience in downtown Tyler.
"It was a little more difficult to find and get into, winding up and down the elevators and stuff. So this is great and really easy," Eckert said.
Turnout is typically lower when there aren't state or national races. Eckert says inconvenience doesn't need to be another excuse for voters.
"May is tougher. That's why it's so important to get this vote out, and people make an effort to get to the polls," Eckert said.
The plan for a new Smith County election's office has been in the works since 2008. Smith County Judge Joel Baker encourages people to take advantage of the early voting period.
He says there are plenty of issues drawing out voters.
"We have school bond election in Tyler, there are school board races in various communities, and alcohol elections," Baker said.
TYLER (KYTX) - Early voting for the May 11th elections starts today.
In Smith County the Tyler Independent School District bond proposal is on the ballot.
You can vote at the new elections office location at 302 East Ferguson.
Early voting hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. from April 29th through May 3rd, and 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. May 6th and 7th.
