EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- East Texans said goodbye to an evangelist from Smith County known around the world.
People filled the Rose Heights Church of God in Tyler for a memorial service for Reverend R.W. Shambach. He died last month of heart failure.
His Christian Ministry based near Lake Palestine spanned six decades and took him around the world.
Tyler Pastor Sam Fisher said Shambach's legacy will live on through him and others.
"His preaching, his faith building messages really really impacted me," he said. "But even more so, just him as a man, him as a person."
Schambach started ministering to people while he was still in the military, serving on a destroyer off the coast of Japan in World War II.
