East Texans continue rallying for minimum wage hikes

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - EAST TEXAS BUSINESS OWNERS RALLIED IN SUPPORT OF MINIMUM WAGE HIKES AGAIN TODAY IN LONGVIEW.

It's not just Democratic supporters at these rallies like this one on Gilmer Road in Longview today.

Business owners like Eddie Towles say raising workers' wages is the one way to sustain America and keep its workforce pushing forward.

"You're not successful in business when you've reached the top of the hill. Success comes when I have taken employees and brought them up to the top of the hill with me. That's what it's all about," Towles said.

Organizing for Action volunteer Vik Verma says other employers, cities and states are adopting higher minimum wages for workers, including the parent company of Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic stores.

The group will hold another rally next week, this one in support of women, who are reportedly paid on average 30 percent less than men. That rally is next Tuesday, on the sixth floor of the Weaver Building, at 208 North Green Street in downtown Longview.
