TYLER (KYTX) - Runners came together to honor those affected by the bombings at the marathon Monday.
The East Texas Striders ran for Boston this morning, and helped raise money.
Dozens of East Texans ran in unity for Boston.
Christy Richbourg finished the race just 20 minutes before the bombs went off.
"Police officers started coming through and the race director started telling us to get out of the way and you knew something wasn't right," says Richbourg.
She didn't run Saturday, but says the week has brought mixed emotions.
"I'm still mad," says Richbourg.
"I think it kind of helps them recover from what happened and to be back with their runner families," says Rebecca Dickson.
Dickson helped organize the Run for Boston event through the East Texas Striders.
She says it helps their 6 members who were there, as well as the countless people injured in the bombing.
"My heart just breaks for those people injured that day, their lives are changed forever. They need help, so this was a good time for runners to unite and do something good for others," says Dickson.
The group held signs, wore names, and even special race bibs that said "runners unite to remember."
"A group on Facebook actually started this. Running clubs all over America are getting together and wearing these bibs," says Dickson.
Unity, to bring peace to one another, and people around the world affected by the brutal attack.
"You run for freedom, you run because you can get in your mind and let stuff go," says Richbourg.
The group raised money to donate to the One Fund Boston that will those most affected by the bombings.
