East Texas Man flees police, speeds clocked at 96 MPH

LUFKIN (KYTX) - One person is in custody after Lufkin Police officers attempted to stop the driver for speeding, traveling as fast as 96 miles per hours.

The driver fled from the officers but crashed the vehicle into bushes in the 2800 block of Minnie Lou Street.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 29-year-old Michael McKelvey, fled on foot from the officers but was detained in a horse pen approximately two hundred yards away.

The officers found that the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, had been stolen sometime that night from the 1400 block of Feagin Drive.

The owner of the vehicle reported that he did not know McKelvey and that the vehicle had been left unlocked with the key inside.

McKelvey was arrested for Evading Arrest (with one prior conviction), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and four Lufkin Municipal Court warrants.

The incident happened at 12 a.m. Tuesday.
