TYLER (KYTX) -- Bill Watson with Consolidated Restaurant Operations, the company that owns the El Chico restaurant chain, has confirmed that plans for the Double D Ranch Bar and Grill in Tyler have been scrapped for the time being.
CRO is now moving ahead to open the restaurant with a modified theme and uniforms. It will be called El Chico Ranch.
CRO is now awaiting approval from Toys R' Us to move ahead with the plans. "We are still working with the counsel from TRU," said Watson.
This move comes after a judge ruled two weeks ago that opening as a DD Ranch violated the lease agreement El Chico has with Toys R Us -- because TRU argued if the DD Ranch opened it would cause irreparable harm to the company. The DD Ranch was supposed to open in August, but before it could TRU took the restaurant to court.
Watson said this temporarily change the name to the El Chico Ranch has one purpose.
"Our aim is to put one hundred good people to work at that property, and we're hoping to open on or about September 13," said Watson.
It was welcomed news to employees like Melissa Pruitt who can't wait to start work.
"I'm very excited," she said."I'm more proud to be working for a company who didn't give up with 100 plus employees not just women men as well. Now we're all able to start our jobs until the conflict is resolved."
As for the DD Ranch's future, all Watson would say is, "We do intend to pursue our legal right in trial on November 28th."
As for the servers' uniforms, "We are still working through that. We don't have complete plans for that right now."
Watson says the menu will be "Texas comfort food and beer".
