Entertainment News: MTV Video Music Awards

(CNN)- Superstars rocked the house at last night's MTV awards. One of the top honors went to Beyonce. Jay Z presented the award to his wife. As the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Beyonce was allotted the final performance of the night. The night also featured an all star lineup of performers. Taylor Swift debuted a song from her new pop album. a long way from her country roots. Video of the year went to Miley Cyrus for Wrecking Ball. Rapper Common called for a moment of silence for Mike Brown and for peace, in this country and in the world. The show also included a short montage of photos of comedian Robin Williams, who died August 11th in an apparent suicide.

(CNN)- Just hours before the MTV Video Music Awards, Rap Mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was hurt in a shooting.  Chris Brown was hosting a pre MTV Video Music Awards party at a club in Los Angeles early Sunday when gunshots went off.  Brown was not hurt.  But three people were hurt, including Knight.  All three are expected to recover.  Police are still looking for the gunman.

(CNN)- Iconic actor director Richard Attenborough has died.  According to the BBC, the actor died Sunday.  He was 90 years old.  Attenborough was one of Britain's leading actors.  He appeared in the 1993 blockbuster "Jurassic Park" and directed the 1982 film "Gandhi", which he won an academy award for.

(CNN)- At the box office this weekend Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy came in at number one.  It is now the number 3 movie of the year and top grossing film of the summer.  It has earned nearly $500 million worldwide.  In second place, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the young adult film "If I Stay" rounds up the top three.
