ETBU tradition helps incoming freshmen, families as they arrive on campus

MARSHALL/HARRISON COUNTY (KYTX) - When incoming freshmen arrived at East Texas Baptist University today -- they got some unexpected hands.

Dozens of students, faculty and staff at the Marshall school welcomed incoming freshmen and their families -- by helping them unload their belongings.

School leaders say it's been a yearly tradition for current students to welcome freshmen pack into their new dorm rooms.

"I wanted to know where they were when I was packing this stuff, and would loved to have had that experience when I moved into school. It's a blessing."

Local churches also greeted students with drinks, snacks and lunch -- including barbecue and shish-ka-bobs.

Freshmen will join other students and faculty in doing service work throughout the Marshall community on Friday.
