Jefferson Police Department:
JEFFERSON (KYTX) - A Jefferson man has been arrested for the Home Invasion Robbery of a local woman that occurred on Saturday afternoon, February 8.
Police said the robbery was reported late Saturday when the woman reported that a man confronted her with a pistol at her door.
She recognized him because he had done some minor yard work for her within the past couple of weeks.
The man forced his way inside and demanded money while pointing the pistol at her.
The quick-thinking woman showed him that she had no cash, but convinced him that she could write him a check. The robber agreed, she wrote the check, and he left after jerking the telephone cord from the wall. Although very scared, the victim was not physically injured.
Officers were able to identify the suspect from information provided by the victim and later viewed a surveillance video at a local business where the robber had attempted to cash the check.
A warrant was issued by Marion County Justice of the Peace Lex Jones for 37-year-old Torrance Christopher Rawls. Rawls was located in Jefferson late Monday afternoon. He ran on foot from officers for approximately one-half mile before giving up and being taken into custody without further incident.
Rawls remains in custody at the Marion County Jail with bail set at $250,000.00.
The Jefferson Police Department was ably assisted in this investigation by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers, Highway Patrol Troopers, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens.
