A group of 30 World War II veterans from the East Texas area came home Saturday after a trip to see the WWII memorial in Washington D.C.
The heroes flight left Thursday morning -- as part of a planned trip by Brookshire's Grocery Company.
The men were able to tour the capitol building and see the war memorial despite the government shutdown.
"We got to see just about everything," Dr. Harold Smith said. "We went back a second time to the World War II memorial [Saturday] morning and spend about an hour and a half or two hours there. When we went [Friday] it was raining. We had a great time and everybody thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it."
The Tyler Morning Telegraph has more on what the veterans did during their time in Washington, including an unexpected entry to the Lincoln Memorial.
