Event honors 3 Carlisle High School grads killed in wreck

One year ago today - another group of young adults from Rusk County were killed in an accident.

An event was set up by family and friends to honor the three Carlisle High School graduates killed.

People from all over Rusk County came and packed this community center here at Hudgens Park in Price tonight. It was all to remember these three young men, who clearly touched so many lives

One year ago, tragedy struck the small town of price -- when 21-year-old Tomas Garza, 19-year-old Nico Garza, and 19-year-old Blake Winfrey were killed in a car accident.

Winfrey was driving in Turnertown, with the Garza brothers in the car, when he over-corrected, and hit a tree.

Two of them were brothers and the other was a classmate of ours but essentially all three of them were brothers.

A year after losing his three best friends, Zachary Coleman decided to throw a festival in their honor.

"This event is known as the TNB memorial festival," Coleman said.

Bringing together a community that has provided love and support to each other during a tough year.

"It's really brought us together in a way, it's really made me realize what all is important in life, looking back on the tragic death of my friends who I pretty much considered my family," Coleman said.

It's a family he plans to continue to support as much as he can.

"Tomas, the oldest of the three gentlemen that died, he had a son that was not very old at all once he passed."

Coleman says money raised at the annual festival will go to a college fund for Tomas' son.

"It was very touching. It was awesome" Blake mother, Debbie Winfrey, said.

Blake Winfrey's mother and aunt felt honored by the memorial event.

"I think it gives everybody a time to reflect back," his aunt, Betty Beaty, said.

As family and friends remember the three young men together -- they're thankful no one will ever have to miss them alone.

Community members say the three young men whose lives were lost just a year ago will always be here in spirit, and they want to continue events like this DBX to make sure their memory lives on. In Price, Rusk Co, CF KYTX CBS 19 News.back to you.
