GAZA (CBS) - Rockets and shells have been criss-crossing the skies over Israel and Gaza, causing 20 deaths and a lot of destruction.
Massive airstrikes on Gaza were reported early this morning about six am local time. Israel says more than 400 rockets were fired from Gaza since Wednesday, and it's being forced to protect its citizens with weapons of its own. The Israeli defense forces say it has intercepted more than a hundred projectiles, as it targets what it claims are long and mid-range launch sites in Gaza.
The U.S. is a key Israeli ally and many on Capitol Hill say the country should defend itself, but they also want the violence to end. This is the heaviest fighting in the region in four years.
