MEMPHIS, TENN. - MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Family members say 11 people were killed in a house fire in Memphis.
CBS Memphis affiliate WREG reports that the family is saying the toll includes seven children and four adults.
The fire began 1:30 a.m. Monday. The home had bars on all its windows.
Tennessee officials are still trying to determine the blaze.
Lt. Wayne Cooke of the Memphis Fire Department said a family of 10 lived in the house. Fire officials said four adults and three children were immediately determined to have died at the scene.
Three children were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in “extremely critical condition.”
It took about 15 minutes for firefighters to put out the fire. After the flames were extinguished they began finding the bodies.
It’s unclear what started the fire or if the home had a working smoke detector.
Cooke said grief counselors will be provided for the personnel who handled the fire.
