Panola County Sheriff's Department:
UPDATE: PANOLA COUNTY (KYTX) - Carthage-Texas Highway Patrol Troopers were notified of a two vehicle crash on US 59 1/4 mile south of FM 1794 in Panola County.
A 2013 MCI Motorcoach was traveling north on US 59 in the right lane. A 2002 Peterbilt Semi was traveling north in the left lane of US 59.
The driver of the motorcoach made a sudden left turn into the path of the semi from the right lane. The driver was apparently attempting to make a U-turn at a crossover. The semi struck the motorcoach in the left side behind the driver area.
The driver of the motorcoach was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected through the front windshield. A passenger in the motorcoach was ejected through a side window.
Three additional passengers in the motorcoach were injured and transported to a local hospital in Carthage with non life-threatening injuries. The remaining 9 passengers were not injured.
The driver of the semi was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler via Air Ambulance with incapacitating injuries. The crash investigation is ongoing including notification of next of kin.
PANOLA COUNTY (KYTX) - On Thursday morning at approximately 1 a.m., Panola county 911 dispatch was notified of a major accident on US highway 59 north near the intersection of FM 1794.
Panola county deputies, Texas DPS officers from both Panola and Harrison county, and Beckville fire department all responded. Upon arrival it was discovered that a tractor trailer had collided with a commercial passenger bus.
The driver and one passenger of the bus were found to be deceased as a result of their injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by helicopter to a Tyler hospital. It is reported that other passengers of the bus were treated and released with only minor injuries.
The scene was cleared at approximately 6 a.m. this morning.
CARTHAGE (KYTX/TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Two people died and at least four others were injured Thursday morning after a passenger bus and a tractor-trailer collided north of Carthage.
The accident happened shortly before 1 a.m. according to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark.
Three of the passengers were taken to a hospital in Carthage and the driver of the tractor-trailer was airlifted to a Tyler hospital.
The bus was traveling from Houston to Chicago.
