Fire marshal: Adult son torches mom's car because she wouldn't buy him a truck

HOUSTON (KHOU) — A 25-year-old Tomball man intentionally torched his mother's car because he was upset that she would not buy him a new truck, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

Ryan Patrick Hanrahan was charged with Arson.

Investigators said Hanrahan threatened his mom, saying that if she did not buy him a truck before she went out of town, he would take action.

He allegedly did.

According to court documents, the mom woke up around 3 a.m. on May 20 to the sound of her car alarm wailing. She looked outside and saw her son standing in front of her 2013 Mazda CX5, which was on fire.

Hanrahan then fled the scene without calling 911.

Fire marshals determined that he doused the car with a flammable liquid, then ignited it with an open flame.

Hanrahan's bail was set at $30,000.
