EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- The Fit City Challenge is catching on at businesses around Tyler. They're starting their own weight loss challenges; one of those places being Azalea Orthopedics.
Almost two dozen Azalea Orthopedics employees joined the challenge to see who could drop the most weight in three months.
At stake: close to $2,000 that employees put in as motivation in the weight loss challenge.
They're almost at the half-way point and the Azalea employees have collectively lost almost 210 pounds.
Cast technician Jacque Dixon and medical assistant Missy Quarles are taking the challenge.
Missy has already dropped 10 pounds and Jacque is more than half-way to her goal weight.
"Joining this, at least I am being held accountable every week, having to weigh in," Missy said. "Especially if I gain weight, I have to pay in my money and I don't want to do that."
While they would both like to win the competition, for them, it's more about feeling better and being around for their families.
"I want to be able to keep up with my grandchildren," Jacque said. "They're very high energy, they want to play, run. They want their gram all of the time."
The Azalea employees weigh in each Friday and their weight loss is kept a mystery to the other competitors until the end of the competition.
The clinical supervisor at Azalea said the doctors are so excited about their employees determination to find fit city success that they've sweetened the pot a little.
