Fit City Success: Three new challenges

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- With the new year approaching and all of the tempting treats during the holidays, now could be the perfect time to recommit yourself to the Fit City Challenge.

Here are this quarter's challenges.

For the one step, the suggestion is to move to the beat and dance while you watch TV during the commercials.

Your one bite suggestion is to avoid sugary drinks.

Making that one health conscious decision suggests knowing your numbers. That means having a check-up to improve your health.

Doctors say that's an important piece to the puzzle, to know where you stand before you start a new workout routine.

If you're ever concerned about your heart or your weight get a check up for your cholesterol, BP and to make sure your sugars are ok. It's very important and people don't head that call all of the time.

Doctor Bryan Lowery said his dietitians can also guide you in the right direction on what type of diet you should be following if your levels suggest you have high blood pressure, cholesterol or even diabetes.

"A lot of places will now make physician sign a statement saying a patient is fit for an exercise program," he said.

He said knowing that, along with exercise and medication in some cases, can help you prevent heart attacks and even stroke.
