Fit City Success: Zumba, a new trend in fitness

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) -- Gyms all over East Texas are now offering Zumba and for people like Aimee Krol, Tyler, it's the perfect combination.

"I was looking for something that was exercise and that I could do for fun," Krol said. "Because everything else I tried didn't work and wasn't fun."

Zumba combines Latin dance moves and music into a high energy fitness workout.

"Everybody likes dancing," Krol said. "The class is for everybody to join the party."

Zumba instructors describe it as a "calorie burning dance fitness party." In just one hour, a possible 500 calories can be burned. Krol said that is what keeps her coming back to Zumba three to four times a week for the past two years.

"You burn a lot of calories and you have fun doing it," she said. "You don't even know you're exercising."

Before Zumba Krol tried everything from weight training to at-home fitness videos, but she said Zumba is the only work out that seems to work for her.

"I think in a class setting you have more accountability," she said. "And a teacher that's really pushing you."

Zumba instructor Maria Flores' classes are so popular that over 50 people come to dance and sweat their way to fit city success.
