TYLER (KYTX) - If you ask most kids what they want for their birthday, you'll get a laundry list of ideas. But 9-year-old Jade Kasiss' only birthday wish this year was to help out other kids in need.
Jade asked his parents to help him collect shoes for less fortunate children, and so far, people have donated more than 600 pairs for the St. Paul Children's Foundation's Khakis for Kids program.
Jade suffers from a rare, life-threatening blood disorder called HLH, and has spent the last six months in a Dallas hospital undergoing chemotherapy and countless procedures.
"I used to have a PICC line in my arm, but a few days ago they took it out, so now I get to swim and do all that stuff, and that was really exciting," he said.
Jade was in Tyler today to count the shoes he's collected so far.
