Former Smith County Sheriff Deputy pleads not guilty to 5 counts

SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - Former Smith County Sheriff deputy pled not guilty to five counts Tuesday in Judge John D. Love's courtroom.

Kimbrick Jones, 38, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and using or carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

Jones was arrested in July on federal drug charges and fired from the department Wednesday July 10. Jones was the focus of a two-month joint investigation by the sheriff's department, the Texas Rangers and the FBI.
