Fundraiser brings in $30,000 for injured firefighter

LINDALE (KYTX) - More than $30,000 was raised by 11 fire departments, a bake sale and T-shirt sales to help injured Lindale firefighter Joe Yeakley.

Firefighters worked through the day to fill the helmet with donations.

Lt. Aaron Munn with the Lindale Fire Department says the outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming.

Some people even dropping hundred dollar bills.

Munn says it all goes to help Joe's family while he's out of work.

"Doctors are saying that it's going to be probably around a year before he'll be able to make it back to work. So we're needing to bring in donations, any kind of financial help we can get for the family so that they can continue to pay their house payments, their car payments, just your normal everyday bills that sometimes we take for granted," says Lt.. Munn.

The fire department women's auxiliary will be selling T-shirts to help raise money as well Sunday at the fire station.

They're 20 dollars.
