(CNN) - Today marks the third anniversary of a deadly mass shooting in Tucson.
On January 8, 2011, Jared Lee Loughner opened fire at an event for former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Six people were killed; Giffords and 12 others were wounded, but survived.
In an op-ed column in today's New York Times, Giffords reveals new progress - writing she's regained use of the her arm after many hours of rehabilitation. Giffords also urges her supporters to be patient on efforts for new gun laws.
