Giffords reflects on three year anniversary of Tucson shooting

(CNN) - Today marks the third anniversary of a deadly mass shooting in Tucson. 

On January 8, 2011, Jared Lee Loughner opened fire at an event for former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Six people were killed; Giffords and 12 others were wounded, but survived.

In an op-ed column in today's New York Times, Giffords reveals new progress - writing she's regained use of the her arm after many hours of rehabilitation. Giffords also urges her supporters to be patient on efforts for new gun laws.

Loughner pleaded guilty to 19 charges of murder and attempted murder
