Gilmer police scare pants off burglar Tuesday

GILMER (FROM THE TYLER PAPER) - One could say that Gilmer Police scared the pants off a burglary suspect early Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Marc Ryder was patrolling about 3:15 a.m. when he noticed a man fleeing from the drive-thru window at the Dairy Queen on U.S. Highway 271, police Investigator/Sgt. Roxanne Warren said.

"The black male's pants fell off," and he ran out of his shoes while getting away, Mrs. Warren said.

The Dairy Queen had been burglarized, but cash was recovered at the scene in the man's pants, she said. The burglar, who ran northward, is described as about 5-foot-9 and of thin build, Mrs. Warren said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 903-843-5545 or Upshur County Crime Stoppers at 903-843-3131.
