Glocal Giving Day at CBS19

TYLER (KYTX) -  The second annual Glocal Giving Day is underway at CBS19. The idea is to help feed people globally and locally. People are donating money for children in East Africa and food for hungry people in East Texas.

No Hungry Children and St. Paul Children's Foundation have teamed up with us for this event once again and they say the donations mean more than you know.
"Thank you so much!"

"You're welcome."

"Thank you!"

A box of food will go a long way for Jackolyn Thompson and the other five people living in her house.

"It helps me out because with the cost of food so high that i need the extra food. And then, it also helps with the nutrition of the food because on the low income, you know, we're limited to what we can buy in a grocery store."
She depends on the food pantry at St. Paul Children's Foundation in Tyler to keep her family healthy.
"We appreciate all contributions because it is helpful." says Thompson.

Especially when school lets out for summer.
"At school, they get a breakfast and they get lunch. And then, during the summer months, mom has to provide all three of those meals. And, for families living in poverty, that's difficult." says St. Paul's director of development, Mitzie Avera.

Poverty can be found here and around the world. Wendi Rees and her family say their lives changed forever when they visited orphan children in East Africa. The overwhelming need for help inspired them to start 'No Hungry Children' four years ago. The group raises money to feed African children.

Jace Rees says it's a family and community effort.

"If we didn't do this, they wouldn't even have food. And, all they get is rice and beans. And, they're still the happiest kids ever."
"The lord touched his heart and made him want to...  I'm sorry. Sorry."

Tears of joy from mother, Wendi Rees, who couldn't be prouder of her children.
"It just changed how i saw what we have compared to what they have. And, they're still really happy."

Jaxon Rees and his brother say helping people in need to make the world a better place is a great feeling.

Just one dollar feeds a child in Africa for an entire week.

You can bring food and funds to our station in Tyler now until 7 p.m.
And in Longview, take items to Fenton Honda from 8:30 in the morning until 7 p.m.
