TYLER (KYTX) - Sam Walters turned 6-years-old on June 7th.
He invited all of his friends to a "Star Wars" themed party where they had cake and lots of fun.
8-year-old twins, Eli and Sophie Saunders had a "mad hatter" party. As you can see in their pictures, they had a good time, too.
These three kids have something in common.
None of them asked their friends for presents for their birthday. They asked for money.
"Because I wanted to help the kids at St. Paul," said Sam Walters.
Sam collected $280 for the St. Paul Children's Foundation in Tyler. And no, it wasn't mom and dad's idea, it was Sam's.
"It's being a good person and a good friend," said Eli Saunders.
Eli and Sophie raised $700 at their birthday party.
"Because it's a very nice thing to do," said Sophie Saunders.
That money was put to good use at St. Paul. The non-profit needed it.
Last year, they helped more than 40,000 people in need.
"I think it's kind of neat, because it's children helping children," said Mitzie Avera.
Mitzie Avera is with St. Paul. She says more people are coming through their doors every month.
"We see people who have been laid-off or had paychecks cut back, so it's important for us to make sure our shelves stay stocked," said Avera.
These children have been doing just that, and it's not because their parents made them do it.
"So the kids can have food and toys," said Walters.
They saw a need and decided to do something about it. It's kids doing good for kids....and that's good news.
