Government shutdown deadline near

WASHINGTON (CBS) - The House will vote today on a bill that would avoid a government shutdown. But it also defunds the Affordable Care Act which means the bill will soon die in the Senate.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said House Republicans need to either pass a clean bill to fund the government or they will force a shutdown. The federal government will run out of money beginning October first. Lawmakers in both parties could end up paying the price.

"If you're an incumbent candidate heading into 2014, I don't think any swing voters in either Republican or Democratic leaning, want to see that there is a government shut down," says POLITICO Reporter Kevin Cirilli.

Many in the GOP say that if they can't de-fund Obamacare with the budget battle, they will try again during the debate about raising the nation's debt limit.
