A Smith County grand jury issued indictments for murder last week against three of the four people accused in the July 30 shooting of 20-year-old Briana Young at P.T. Cole Park.
Dennis Montrell Bendy, Rakheem Goldstein and Elisha Juwan Williams were each indicted during a grand jury session on November 7. Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham said the grand jury declined to indict Ke'Avier Jarrod Wilson-Hurd, who was previously identified and arrested as Bendy, Goldstein and Williams' co-defendant.
At the time of Wilson-Hurd's arrest, police said it was his bullet that killed Young during a gang-related shoot-out at the park in which she was caught in the crossfire. The other three were accused of riding with Wilson-Hurd in--and possibly firing additional shots from--a white Cadillac that was the subject of an intense search effort immediately following the shooting.
However, Bingham said further investigation determined that two of the now-indicted men were shooters and the third was simply involved.
Bendy, Goldstein and Williams remain in the Smith County Jail with bond set at $1 million each.
Wilson-Hurd is also in jail on a reduced bond based on a separate charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon.
